Mutumboi Mundia is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Prospero Limited. She has over 20 years’ combined experience in financial markets, regulation, crisis management, business support advisory services and mainstream finance. In her role as Prospero CEO, Mutumboi’s main focus is to ensure that Prospero fulfils its mandate of supporting and facilitating private sector development and impact investment for growth stage businesses.
Before joining Prospero Limited, Mutumboi was Director – Market Supervision and Development at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) where she led several transformation initiatives in line with the overarching vision to position the Zambian capital markets as a preferred destination for investments. She championed a number of developments around new approaches on closing the gap between market supervision and market development. These included the transition of the Zambian capital markets from Compliance Supervision to global best practice Risk-Based Supervision. She further was instrumental in positioning the SEC as a leader in fostering the sustainability agenda and to this end, she co-spearheaded the development of the green bonds framework that established Zambia’s green bonds market. Mutumboi successfully lobbied for the establishment of the Mainstreaming Green Finance Working Group, a focal point for the three financial sector regulators in terms of concerted efforts towards mainstreaming green finance in Zambia. Mutumboi leaves a track record of game changing deliverables such as the development of the first regulatory sandbox in Zambia as well as the inaugural Capital Markets Master Plan. She is passionate about positioning Zambia as a preferred Global Green Investment Hub, which aspiration was admitted as an activity in Zambia’s Eighth National Development Plan.
Mutumboi also served as Associate Director in the Advisory Practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers Zambia where her role entailed primarily leading turnarounds for businesses in distress (including receiverships and liquidations), forensic investigations, due diligence and other business support services.
Prior to this, she operated ReaLife Solutions, whose focus was providing consultancy to SMEs. In this role she helped set-up a microfinance institution (Butala Microfinance now Izwe Loans). She has worked in the energy sector as a Financial Analyst at the Energy Regulation Board where she focused on reviews of the electricity sector rate case and petroleum sector price build-ups. Earlier she worked with Zesco whilst training as an Accountant and had held various positions in Finance.
Mutumboi is a qualified Expert in Sustainable Finance and is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants – (UK). She is a Chevening Scholar and holds a master’s degree in Corporate Strategy and Governance from the University of Nottingham (UK). She holds an International Global Certification for Securities Regulators, which is jointly offered by Harvard Law School (USA) and the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). She further holds a Certificate in International Introduction to Securities and Investment from the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (UK) and also an Introductory Certificate in Arbitration from the UK’s Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. In addition, Mutumboi is an alumni of the Swedish Institute Management Programme Diploma in Sustainable Business and Responsible Leadership.
