JAMES BLEWETT

CEO

James has led Prospero (and its predecessor programme, PEPZ) since 2017. As CEO, he is responsible for managing the Prospero team, focusing on achieving the high performance required to deliver the corporate strategy and achieve organizational goals. Originally a Chartered Management Accountant, with an MA from the University of Aberdeen, James moved from working in industry to corporate finance – managing privatization and investment transactions in Central and Eastern Europe – before moving into Economic Development. He has worked on private sector development and market systems development programmes in Africa and Asia for more than 20 years, helping to secure investment and facilitate growth for numerous businesses in developing countries. James has advised on transactions with a cumulative value of more than US$1bn and is an active investor himself – participating in a private equity fund that specializes in impact investment in frontier markets.

BRIAN ROSS

DEPUTY CEO & SECTOR LEAD – TOURISM & HOSPITALITY

Brian’s dual role within Prospero focuses on ensuring effective overall delivery of the company’s strategy and also facilitating meaningful investments to drive inclusive growth of MSMEs within Zambia’s tourism, artisanal products and conservation sectors. His past experiences includes multi-sectoral work for DFID, USAID, DFAT, the EU and private foundations centred around inclusive private sector growth, SME investment support and improved business enabling environments. He holds a MA degree from The Elliott School of International Affairs in Washington, D.C. and has been fortunate to work with businesses in a variety of emerging economies across Asia, Africa and North America. An entrepreneur himself, Brian enjoys the creative process of working with businesses to identify growth opportunities and support strategic investments.

She holds an MPhil from Maastricht School of Management, an MBA from Mississippi State University, a BSc in Management Information Systems from Mississippi University for Women and an Associate in Arts from Hinds Community College.

Claire van der Kleij

Sector Lead – Food & Agriculture

Claire is a results oriented, entrepreneurial and multi-lingual professional with expertise in agriculture and inclusive business throughout East and Southern Africa. Her role focuses on increasing the presence and competitiveness of Zambian origin food products in end-consumer markets. Claire has previous experience in the capacity building of small and medium enterprises, market and trade linkages, project management and resource mobilization. Her academic background includes degrees in Business Administration and International Relations from the United Kingdom and The Netherlands.

Mutale B. Kapilikisha

Sector Lead – Mining & Mining Services

Mutale has more than 20 years experience in management and financial consulting. He has worked on a number of mining SME supply value chain development projects for the International Finance Corporation (World Bank) in partnership with mining companies in West and Southern Africa. He holds an MBA from the University of Lincoln (UK) and a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Management degree from Leeds Beckett University (UK).

Joe is an impact analyst with three years’ experience as an economist at the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID). He joins us seconded from DFID Zambia and will work to ensure investment from Prospero Zambia is effective, inclusive and sustainable. His previous work experience includes the United Nations, KPMG, and the Red Cross and he holds degrees in Economics from Universities in Edinburgh, Paris and Milan.

Amukena Mukumbuta

Procurement & Compliance Manager

Amukena has over 10 years’ experience working in finance, administration, compliance and project management. His role focuses on developing innovative contracting approaches and establishing accurate, efficient and transparent processes for the entire grant life cycle. He is an ACCA Certified Accounting Technician with a Business Administration degree from Mancosa.

Jonnathan Mtonga

Monitoring & Evaluation Manager

Jonnathan has 10 years’ of experience in monitoring and evaluation across several thematic areas including market systems development, international and cross border trade, education, livelihoods, agriculture and nutrition. He has previously worked with organisations such as Nathan Associate, DAI, Concern Worldwide and iSchool Zambia and has consulted for both local and international organisations including the UN. He holds  an MPhil  from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies from the University of Zambia.

Chileshe is a Chartered Accountant with experience in banking, finance, audit and compliance. Prior to joining Prospero, Chileshe held senior positions in a number of financial institutions. He gained audit and compliance experience during his time with KPMG & Grant Thornton and NGO experience while working at Family Health International (FHI) Zambia. He is a Fellow of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Graduate of Manchester Business School and the Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies (ZCAS).

Sonia has seven years’ experience in international developement. Her role focuses on building and maintaining positive visibiity of Prospero as a leading private sector development partner in Zambia. Her previous work experience includes Chemonics, PSI, DKT and the African Leaders Malaria Alliance. She holds a B.A. in International Relations from Michigan State University and an MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Womba is a development analyst and entrepreneurship enthusiast with 4 years experience working in various fields related to business development including marketing, administration, grants & contracts and procurement and compliance. Her current role focuses on conducting due diligence and vetting to ensure all grant applicants, vendors and service providers are compliant with the rules and regulations of operating in Zambia. Womba holds holds degrees in Developmement Studies and Library and Information Science from the University of Zambia.

Kasamwa Kachomba

Kasamwa has extensive experience working with growth-focused MSMEs as part of the widely popular Nyamuka Business Plan competition. His current role ensures all organization procurements are in full compliance with DFID regulations and policies. Kasamwa holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Demography from the University of Zambia and is currently pursuing an MSc in Economics and Finance.

He is a licentiate member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants and is currently pursuing a Chartered Accountancy qualificantion.
