LUSAKA, Zambia, Tuesday, November 16, 2021: Prospero and the Chamber of Mines have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a platform for collaboration around mutual interests pertaining to the significant role that the mining sector plays in accelerating inclusive economic development in Zambia.
This agreement will bring about greater sustainable mining and commercially viable non-mining dependent economic development by providing support to local light manufacturing, local assembly and maintenance service suppliers of goods and services to mining companies through SME development programmes.
“The partnership between Prospero and the Chamber of Mines will boost the joint efforts of promoting local content in the mining supply chains with an increased participation of Zambian SMEs, and spur sustainable economic development in mining areas through community led businesses,” says James Blewett, Prospero CEO.
The MOU will promote partnerships between members of the chambers of mine (mining companies and other stakeholders) and Prospero.
“The chamber of Mines looks forward to partnering with Prospero in ensuring that ambitious and determined Zambian businesses are not left behind in the imminent mining upswing that will be driven by the once in hundred year extended green copper bull market that the world is experiencing today,” says Engineer Sokwani Chilembo, Chamber of Mines CEO.
The MoU will also seek to provide linkages between mining, agriculture and tourism sectors by promoting and supporting value addition in different value chains.
