Mutumboi Mundia

Mutumboi Mundia is the Chief Executive Officer of Prospero Limited. She has more than 20 years in combined expertise in financial markets, regulation, crisis management, business support advisory services and mainstream finance. As CEO of Prospero, Mutumboi is primarily focused on seeing to it that Prospero delivers on its mandate of promoting and enabling private sector development and impact investment for growth stage enterprises.
Mutumboi was with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as Director – Market Supervision and Development, responsible for a range of transformation initiatives that SEC is aligned to enhance the positioning of the Zambian capital markets as a destination of choice for investments. She advanced several developments concerning new practices corncerning closing the gap between market supervision and market development policy. These included the transfer of Zambia’s capital markets from Compliance Supervision to Global Best Practice Risk-Based Supervision. She was also essential in placing SEC as a pioneer in promoting the sustainability agenda, having co-led the establishment of the green bonds framework that launched Zambia’s green bond market. Mutumboi successfully advocated for the establishment of the Mainstreaming Green Finance Working Group, which will serve as a focal point for Zambia’s three financial sector authorities in their collaborative efforts to mainstream green finance.
Mutumboi has a history of producing ground-breaking results, including the first Capital Markets Master Plan and Zambia’s first regulatory sandbox. Her goal, which was included as an activity in Zambia’s Eighth National Development Plan, is to establish Zambia as a favored global green investment hub.

Mutumboi also worked as an Associate Director in PricewaterhouseCoopers Zambia’s Advisory Practice, where she was primarily responsible for leading turnarounds for distressed businesses (including receiverships and liquidations), forensic investigations, due diligence, and other business support services.

She previously ran ReaLife Solutions, which focused on providing SMEs with consulting services. In this function, she contributed to the establishment of a microfinance institution (Butala Microfinance, now Izwe Loans). She formerly worked as a Financial Analyst at the Energy Regulation Board, where she was responsible for reviewing the electricity sector rate case and petroleum sector price build-ups. She previously worked for Zesco while training as an accountant and held several jobs in finance.

Mutumboi is a Certified Expert in Sustainable Finance and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK). She is a Chevening Scholar who earned a master’s degree in Corporate Strategy and Governance from the University of Nottingham (UK). She holds an International Global Certification for Securities Regulators, which is provided by Harvard Law School (USA) and the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). She also has a Certificate in International Introduction to Securities and Investment from the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (UK) and an Introductory Certificate in Arbitration from the UK’s Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Mutumboi has also completed the Swedish Institute Management Programme Diploma in Sustainable Business and Responsible Leadership.
