James has led Prospero (and its predecessor programme, PEPZ) since 2017. As CEO, he is responsible for managing the Prospero team, focusing on achieving the high performance required to deliver the corporate strategy and achieve organizational goals. Originally a Chartered Management Accountant, with an MA from the University of Aberdeen, James moved from working in industry to corporate finance – managing privatization and investment transactions in Central and Eastern Europe – before moving into Economic Development. He has worked on private sector development and market systems development programmes in Africa and Asia for more than 20 years, helping to secure investment and facilitate growth for numerous businesses in developing countries. James has advised on transactions with a cumulative value of more than US$1bn and is an active investor himself – participating in a private equity fund that specializes in impact investment in frontier markets.
